GPU Installation Guide

Installing a graphics card is the most satisfying part of the build. Here is how to do it safely.

1. Preparation

Before you begin, ensure your PC is turned off and unplugged. Open your case side panel and locate the top-most PCIe x16 slot (usually the one closest to the CPU).

Warning: Remove the PCIe slot covers on the back of your case corresponding to the slot you are using. Most GPUs take up 2 or 3 slots.

2. Seating the GPU

Unlock the retention clip at the end of the PCIe slot (push it down or to the side). Align the GPU gold contacts with the slot and push down firmly until you hear a distinct click.

3. Securing the Card

Use the screws you removed from the slot covers to secure the GPU bracket to the case. This prevents the heavy card from sagging or damaging the slot.

4. Power Cables

Most modern GPUs require extra power. Connect the PCIe power cables (6-pin, 8-pin, or 12VHPWR) from your PSU to the GPU. Ensure they are fully seated.

Pro Tip

Do not daisy-chain cables for high-end cards. Use separate cables from the PSU for each connector if possible.
